First video conference of the term

FIRST VIDEO CONFERENCES 17-18

¡¡Hola Conde Arruga!!

Nos ha encantado volver a saber de vosotros...ha sido muy interesante los personajes famosos de quienes nos habéis hablado.

We found out about 4 famous Spanish people: Penelope Cruz, Rafael Nadal, Cervantes and Picasso here are some pictures of you telling us all about them!

We really enjoyed your presentations and thought your English was excellent we hope you enjoyed ours too as we worked really hard on our Spanish pronunciation!

We presented the following 4 famous English people: David Beckham, J. K. Rowling, The Queen and John Lennon.

"Thank you Conde Arruga  for your presentations. We have learnt about famous people in your country." (Leila 5L)

Nosotros esperamos que hayáis disfrutado con nuestras presentaciones.

At the end of the session both schools sang the yellow submarine by John Lennon. Conde Arruga sang it in English and Wykeham in Spanish. It was evident that the children from both schools really enjoyed this as everyone was joining in with the chorus in both languages, clapping and dancing.

¡¡MUCHAS GRACIAS!!

It happened long ago, but here you have some photos taken during our video conferences last term. The students at Wykeham worked on Halloween while those at Conde Arruga worked on Las Fallas, two typical celebrations in our countries. It was very interesting!

And now we are looking forward to the next one!!!

Autumn term contact

Excitement mounts for our next contact...

Everyone at Wykeham primary school is very excited about our next contact with Conde Arruga to be held in November. All classes in years 3, 4, 5, and 6 have been busy preparing presentations and questions in Spanish. The chosen topic for the autumn term is festivals and we asked the children which festival they wanted to tell their twin school about and Halloween was chosen by the majority of children at wykeham school.

We started by sending some information on a powerpoint to Conde Arruga about Halloween in English and received one in Spanish about Las Fallas which is the festival our Spanish school will be teaching us about.

Here is one year 3 class learning about las fallas during their weekly Spanish lesson:

A big thank you for sending such an interesting powerpoint with lots of pictures. Our children found them fascinating and it provoked lots of questions and discussion. I am one of the lucky ones to have  visited Valencia during the Fallas, so I was able to share lots of my personal experiences with the children, although is was a long time ago now, one does not forget such an amazing experience....

Some of the questions and comments the children made were: "Why do they burn them?" "Is it scary?" "I really want to go and see them when I am older!"

50th Anniversary Celebration

If you remember last year we celebrated our 50th Anniversary.

Apart from some formal events with educational authorities as well as schools representatives, we had a big school celebration at the beginning of June.

Our playground was nicely decorated. There was life music and dancing. The doors were open for everybody.

Old photographs were exhibited so that old pupils and teachers would see them, in order to bring back good memories from their experience here.

Snacs and drinks were sold together with some hand crafts made by our students. And, best of all, all the money obtained was given to a Charities organisation!!!

It worked really well. Everybody reported having had a great day!

Here you have some pictures of it!

Finally, a short film was recorded with school scenes and some interviews. We invite you to watch that at our school web page. It is called "El sueño del Conde Arruga"

This last picture was taken around those days in a Sports Competition among schools. See how much fun our kids are having at an aerobics session!!!

Last Skype sessions

Do you remember our last skype sessions? The history of our schools was a very interesting topic.

The kids were amazed to know that your school is more than 80 years old. The photo of some children during World War Two really shocked them; they all wondered what that must have been like! It happened so long ago...

Here we have some pictures of pupils while working on that.

Here we are again!!!

Here we are again, after the summer holidays where I hope you all have had great fun!!!

We are happy to be back at school, to see our colleagues and pupils, to share nice experiences and to reach new goals.

Among them stands our desire to maintain our common project, to keep our regular videoconferences, exchange cards and other new ideas that may arise.

So, welcome back everyone!!!

Looking forward to our next skype session

Our appology for being so late!!!

The end of last term was so busy that we have just managed to place some entries on our common blog.

However, we have not forgotten how fun it was and how delighted the kids were! The hard work was worthwhile!

We found your information very interesting and we loved the carol you chose for the exchange. We liked it so much that some of our groups sang it on our Christmas School Festival.

I am glad to inform you that we got your christmas cards on the very last day, so we did not have time to show them to the pupils, but we will soon!

Finally, we are very happy to have contributed to Ofsted making such positive comment. We certainly agree!!!

Now we are all ready and looking forward to our next skype session!
